resize a bad patch out of a parbreastion 7148On Fri, 09 Dec 2005 08:50:05 -0500, Jean-David Beyer run 'smartctl -a' on the device - it should tell you current drive temperature and the temperature at which the drive will shut itself down. Be aware that some manufacturers use funny numbers for the trip temperature - one of my Quantum SCSI drives says that it won't get upset until 90 degrees, but I'm sure something will break long before that. The same drive reports a permanent health status of "about to break in the next 5 minutes" despite being able to pbutt both extended smartctl and badblocks tests without any issues. I suspect that someone was on the beers when they wrote the firmware... (unfortunately firmware updates for Quantum drives don't seem to exist) The drives in my desktop system here sit permanently at around 46 degrees, and I've never had any trouble with them. Around 65 degrees seems typical for drive trip temperature. That should be more than plenty. Just be aware that if there's a significant gap anywhere then most of your airflow will go through there rather than actually pbutting over the drives and cooling them (commercial disk shelves tend to use dummy blocks of foam to simulate drives in empty slots so that air goes where it's supposed to) resize a bad patch out of a parbreastion 7149 On Fri, 09 Dec 2005 09:55:56 -0500, Jean-David Beyer I got 2 seagate from different series..
