resumecv authoring advice

To me, it seems to mean that either somebody thinks his looks are going to help get him a job, or he doesn't have enough experience-education to fill up one page. If you're an actor or model, worrying about looks is probably valid. When hiring for an engineering postion I try to ignore it. Adding extra stuff to your resume that I'm trying to ignore doesn't gain points.

If you want to stand out from the crowd, just make sure your resume has a good, clean, simple layout and doesn't contain a lot of grammatical and spelling errors. Unfortunately, good grammer and spelling will stand out from the crowd.

And yes, I can tell the difference at a glance between a PDF or hardcopy document created with a real typesetting program like LaTeX, and one created with a memo-mill like MS-Word. ;)

You've got one page to make a good impression on the person sorting the resumes. Don't waste space on a picture.

Remember: this is all just the opinion of one guy -- one guy who doesn't happen to be hiring anybody anyway.
