samba and big files questionHello, I'm trying to do the following: I want to mirror a directory (seen on a windows box) through a linux box onto a webserver. samba and big files question 7192 On Wed, 14 Dec 2005 09:30:37 +0000, Robert Latest There are even more complications than that. Caveats: I have no experience with... This is what I'm thinking about: Create a directory on linux box which gets samba-connected to windows box, and regularly (say, avery 5 minutes) sync to web server using weex (an automatic ftp client) and cron with simple locking mecahnism (so no two instances of weex run simultaneously). The purpose: My office frequently shares very large (10's of MB) files with clients, which is easier and more efficient using the web rather than email. The problem: Right after a samba transfer starts (from windows to linux), the file shows up in the linux filesystem in full size. Which means that the next time the weex cron job comes around it'll immediately start transferring a file which contains no real data. This since I can't rely on that I find this approach bears the danger of file corruption. What'd suit my needs best would be if the file showed up on the linux box only after it has been transferred in full, oder by some other means of flagging a successful transfer. Thoughts? Tips? robert
