SQ Fan? Unless someone's done some custom mods, it probably has at least 3 loud fans in it (one loud fan in the PSU and two really really...

Then why didn't you say this in your *first message*? You know, define your problem properly at the start, and it cuts down on the amount of crap you have to do later.

Without X? Um, playing DiVX;-) and various things that can be encoded at a variety of sizes is a *lot* easier and faster with Xv. Xv is a part of X (funny, that.) The best-tested output plugins of the common without X, it's just much easier and faster and performs better with X.

Totally orthogonal to whether your kernel is modular or not. In the general case, a CD that's supposed to run on many x86 systems, you'd *have* to make the kernel modular. You just can't compile in support for every piece of hardware on the x86 and still have a kernel image small enough for a real-mode loader to load. I made that point a few messages back, Message-ID second paragraph.

...if directfb is a requirement, you're stuck with this, eh? That makes me think it'd be better to use X... well, that and the availability of Xv. HTH,
