A File Benchmark Nautilus falls down, Konqueror stands up well, Explorer beats both

Every distro should have its own . Sharing just doesn't work out at all. If you haveusr, each distro should have a separateusr as well.

Swap can be shared among distros without a problem.

home can be shared among different distros iff theetc-pbuttwd files on each distro have the same usernames and the same UIDs present. Since this is a laptop, it's highly probably that you only have an account for root and an account for yourself, so this is no big deal.

Please note that many desktop environments write config settings to ~, so if you use KDE X.Y on distro 1, and KDE Z.W on distro 2, the various settings one version of KDE writes may interfere with the other version. Maybe. The last time I played with multiple distros on one machine was a long time ago (Redhat 7.1 and SuSE 7.3), and that didn't happen, but I can't remember if I was trying to sharehome there or not.

The most efficient way to do this would be to experiment with multiple distros on a desktop machine. Multiple distros means more hard disk space needed, and it's usually a PITA to put more than one hard disk into a laptop. Depending on the laptop model, it can even be a PITA to replace a 40G 2.5" disk with an 80G 2.5" disk. Oh well, HTH,
