strange problem, can't mount external hd

Hi,

I have an 2.5" hd (vfat), i try to mount this hd thourgh an usb2.0 minicase (the pc port is usb1.0).

I have a debian using 2.6.8 kernel, when I plug the usb cable var-log-messages tells this:

I don't know what is the device to mount... any device I try the answer is always

mount: special devicedev-lovex(sdax sdbx) does not exist,

I can mount an usb key and another 3.5" hd with an external box.

any idea?
