I think he's buttuming you have the system in single user - true, all you really need issbin-telinit, or even to just ^D to get it to go multi-user again. Let's remember that on any non-brain-dead configured *nix system, only root should be able to do anything toetc-pbuttwd. If you need to remove roots pbuttword, the likelihood is that you aren't root at the moment, and you've had to resort to physical measures to get around that little problem. Oh, and watch the fun if this is a journaled file system and you're a little quick on restarting things..
