thunderbird installationOn 5 Apr 2006 11:04:27 -0700, danish staggered into the Black Sun and said: Which version of which distro are you using? Unless you know exactly what you're doing, it's always better to use your distro's packages. This causes fewer stupid problems in the long run. The first thing you should do when looking at a tarball is to read the INSTALL and README* files. These typically contain directions on how to install and-or compile the program the tarball contains. Don't run things as root if you can possibly avoid doing so. The error message says that a necessary library (libstdc++.so.5) isn't there. If you'd installed Thunderbird via your distro's packages, you would've either had the necessary libraries installed automatically, or gotten an error like "thunderbird-1.5.rpm depends on libstdc++-v3.rpm which is not installed". Mounting a key in linux On 5 Apr 2006 16:10:17 -0700, Akumu staggered into the Black Sun and said: What have you tried WRT mounting this device? Are all the appropriate... The library is part of the libstdc++-v3 package on Gentoo. Since you didn't mention which distro you're using, I don't know which package you'll have to install. Note that Thunderbird-1.5 may depend on other packages which you may or may not have installed, and you may have to find out which packages they are by trial and error. This is annoying and tedious, and it's why people invented package managers in the first place.
