shakiro Whenever people talk about the real world that way, it is usually an introduction to requiring one to compromise his principles. I have succumbed to this at work in the past, and have always regretted it. Not only is the long-term bad taste in the mouth to do work you must sign off on that you know is badly done for reasons of expediency, but even in the short-run, the stuff never works very well.

Consider patents in the past. When an impecunious inventor patents something, what has happened in the past? A large corporation then challenges the patent, filing one of theirs at the same time. They then drag the procedure out in the patent court until the original inventor runs out of money and loses the patented idea entirely. RCA was famous for this in vacuum tube days. Filing a patent, especially for an unpatentable idea, especially if you are not richer than your compebreastors, is like the proverbial waving a red flag at a bull.
