ubuntu hangs during first bootthe following words to the mbuttes incomp.os.linux.misc...: This is fine. GNU-Linux doesn't care much about whether it's installed in primary or logical parbreastions. ;-) Did you... (a) check themd5sumson the.isofile before you burned it to a CD-R(W)?; (b) burn it at low speed?; and (c) use quality CD-R(W)'s? A "no" to any of the above opens up the possibility to a bad installation CD - see further down. ;-) Did you wait long enough? Perhaps the system wasn't hanging but was trying to initialize a daemon that had a certain timeout - usually the system just continues to boot finely afterwards. I'm not saying that this was the case here. It's just a possibility. ;-) I doubt that this would make any difference, sinceinitreports that the root filesystem was mounted successfully. If that weren't the case, you'd get a kernel panic instead of a green " OK ". Ubuntu Synaptic repository problem I am currently running Breezy on my laptop - it's a bit of a limited machine (156 MB RAM, 450 MHz processor, 4 GB HDD) so I'm... On the other hand, did you set up the mountpoints correctly for the other filesystems? Well, I don't use Ubuntu. ;-) It could however just be that your download was corrupted and-or that your burn was bad. Often this doesn't show during installation, but it may (and usually will) yield some strange results once the system is bootstrapped to normal operation... I don't know the exact order of events in the Ubuntu boot-up sequence, so I can't really say what happens after the mounting of the root filesystem. It could be a failing attempt to mount your other filesystems, or perhaps you've split off a directory that shouldn't be split off from the root filesystem. Only you know what exactly you've done when you installed this system... ;-) Linux Lunacy On Wed, 28 Jun 2006 17:50:16 -0700, ex.mackie.user The biggest problem with Linux, after the quacks that seem to want to convert everyone to Linux, is the lack of commercial quality... -- With kind regards, *Aragorn* (Registered GNU-Linux user #223157)
