updating suse 10 via internet and yast: possible

In YaST Installation Source, select the line that points to the CDs and click on the Enable-Disable button, this will set the first flag on the line to "Off" and YaST will not ask for the CDs

Because YaST is looking at a number of different installation sources and the first one is likely to be the CDs.

You can do that, but you can also disable the CD search and only use the Internet repositories

I also have an ftp mirror of the packman source which is normally disabled but can be used if the other source is too heavily loaded or (as happened once before) does not respond for some other reason.

You definitely do not have to buy the CDs in order to be able to install software for SUSE
