using killall from the background 3232PLF where'd all the packages go Kevin" So what is it that you think people are going to do? Contact every organization in the world and ask them if they have someone named "Kevin" working for... how I get my terminal to login and talk to the site to see what is running. The script clears the 1 out of the file after running the killall command, and the file does get cleared. The ppp link just doesn't get shut down. This only happens when I run it from the init.d. If I start it after logging into the remote machine, and then write a 1 to that file the ppp link is end faster than I can exit out of my login session. For some reason it just won't kill the link when I run it from startup. Everything is running as root from my startup and the script is owned, run by, and in the root group. I have it sucessfully running on 2 remote boxes, but not on the third. All permissions are the same. The script and install are the same because this was all done with an install script. The first box gave me no problems. The second one was a headache, and appeared to have a permissions error. Now the third I took all of this into account, but I have looking into this and they are all setup the same. I am clueless, but don't know any other way to get this to work. I tried to kill ppp from my c++ application, but it would kill the link before it could return success so I continually locked things up, because the communications died before the last parts of data were transfered.
