Michael Heiming snip Well, my mobo was state of the art when I bought it a coupla years ago. Supermicro X5DP8-G2. Perhaps I was lucky. I do not know about USB on this machine...

For the 2.6 kernels, you'll have much better luck using dev=-dev-hdX , using the IDE device directly instead of trying to use ide-scsi emulation. If the CD-RW is USB-Firewire, they you still use dev=X,Y,Z, but that's the only time you use Joerg's triplet thing.

sets root device to first parbreastion of first hard disk, typically that's where Windows lives reads first sector and executes the code it finds there, which should be think you should, enter "boot".

You'll probably want to fix the GRUB config file at some point. Editboot-grub-grub.conf and insert a stanza like so:

breastle=Windows 2000 (yuck) root (hd0,0) chainloader +1

...and you'll get a "Windows 2000 (yuck)" menu choice in GRUB's menu. HTH,
