Hi. I have an Epson Perfection 2400 scanner, but now I'd like to buy a faster one. I mainly use it to scan documents, pages from books etc.; I usually scan at about 240 dpi, monochrome or grayscale. What are the fastest scanners running on Linux? supported by Linux and which are not)

I've googled for information about scanning speeds, but I found no satisfactorily comparable data.

So, I have myself measured the speed of my scanner; I hope someone will answer informing about scanning times for other (faster) scanners, so that they can be clearly compared.

In each of my measurements, I started timing when my scanner (Epson Perfection 2400) was making the first noise, and I stopped the timer when the scanning was complete (that is, before the optical system started moving back to its rest position).

When I scan the maximum scan area (21.59 x 29.72 cmÓ = 8.5 x 11.7 inchÓ) in grayscale, my scanning times are: 100 dpi: 8 sec 120 dpi: 10.5 sec 133, 144 dpi: 11 sec 150, 175, 180, 200, 216 dpi: 11.5 sec 240 dpi: 12 sec 266, 300 dpi: 15 sec 320 dpi: 27 sec 350, 360, 400 dpi: 28 sec 480 dpi: 36 sec

When I scan a square sized 15.02 x 15.02 cmÓ (= 5.92 x 5.92 inchÓ), on the "nearer" side (the side of the optical system in its rest position, I mean), in grayscale, my scanning times are: 100, 120 dpi: 5 sec 133, 144, 150, 160, 175, 180, 200, 216, 240 dpi: 7 sec 266, 300, dpi: 8.5 sec 320, 350, 360, 400, 480 dpi: 15.5 sec

Bye.
