wifi question 177
My experience (very limited) with setting up my daughter's wireless laptop when she is home from school...

Richard Kimber

Your very much in luck, you see I have the exact same laptop. First check the output from the following commands;

ndiswrapper -l

Sample output from my laptop(I'm using the 64-bit drivers see below);

Installed drivers: bcmwl5 driver present, hardware present

uname -a

If your kernel is x8664 then you need to use the Windows XP 64-bit driver. If your kernel is x86 (386, 586, 686) then you need the Windows 32-bit drivers.

Depending on which kernel then you need to download the correct Windows XP driver.

Unruh OK. Sorry. I was just answering the question about whether it could see anything. The output is: Interface doesn't support scanning. I don't think...

For an x8664 kernel it is this one; ftp:--ftp.support.acer-euro.com-notebook-ferrari4000-driver-winxp64bit-80211g.zip

For an x86 kernel it is this one; ftp:--ftp.support.acer-euro.com-notebook-aspire30005000-driver-802bg.zip

A bit later in this thread I read;

Yep you have a 'buggy BIOS' just like everyone else with this laptop. I will take some effort on your part but this can be overcome. This buggy BIOS issue has nothing to do with the wireless issue. You need to build a custom kernel to load a custom DSDT to fix this issue, fortunately for you if you have an 3a27 BIOS I have already done the custom DSDT.

DSDT and to load this DSDT from the directions at;

You might have to modify the commands slighty to match your actual initrd file name, just place the DSDT.aml file in the same location as your initrd file.
