wireless lan 101 4680John-Paul Stewart You have a point. My error and I apologize. Still does not excuse rudeness. It's just that this is about message #15 (most very detailed) to different websites and newsgroups and still no WLAN. Frustration sinks in after a while and I wanted to start afresh again. Hence the basic question. You see I access the internet via a router through my wireless lan and if I cannot get the wireless lan going I cannot access the web - which means constant rebooting between Linux and XP and after a while you start wondering why you are bothering. And then you get a friendly reply like this one and you really wonder. wireless lan 101 4682 Peter T. Breuer OK, I had to log out and re-login as root to run the command. Then when I run cardinfo I get: "Could not run the specified command". Same thing when... BTW, I was not planning to reply to Mr Bianchi and just decided to look elsewhere. I have no time for verbal wars. And then when I saw how Vic got blasted for taking my side (thank you Vic) and was insulted because the responder thought the order of response was even more important than the point made and I felt I needed to respond. If this group thinks it is being helpful and promoting Linux, who am I to tell them different! You obviously all agree with each other. I am not picking a fight, just asking for help. Jeff
