Ubuntu is popular. FC5 is out. RH9 is too old. Do your own research to pick the right distribution for you. Are you sure you are not at an "X" login manager? Yes, but if you don't remember setting the pbuttword, I'd start over. If you decide to reload, then get a newer version this time. You need to realize you are up against a bit of a learning curve here. No one will come to you to setup your system or babysit you through every step along the way. You have to learn to ask better questions and to do things for yourself. Look at my earlier post to you for a link specifically about your laptop. That is a good starting point. A lot of people apparently have no desire to rid themselves of viruses, spyware, rootkits, etc. You, at least, are expressing a desire to get away from the monopolist. That's normal on a laptop.
